Basted Eggs Recipe

A basted egg is like a fried egg and a poached egg. The egg is fried on the bottom but steamed on the top, so you can enjoy a slightly more set yolk.

When basting your eggs, all you need is a frying pan, a lid that fits and a dash of water. Our basted eggs are simple yet satisfying - set whites and a runny yolk like a poached egg.

Time 5 mins

Serves 1

Difficulty Easy

Ingredients

1 tsp butter

1 large egg

1 tbsp boiling water

You’ll also need a frying pan with a lid that fits

What you'll need...

Method

1. Melt the butter in a frying pan over a medium heat.

2. Crack in the egg and cook until the whites are nearly set then add the boiling water and cover the frying pan.

3. Cook the egg in the covered frying pan until the thin layer of white on top of the yolk starts to turn white too. You should still be able to see the slight yellow of the yolk.

4. Remove the egg from the frying pan, season and serve.
