What you'll need...

  • 350ml warm water
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or olive oil is fine)
  • 1 tbsp black treacle
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 400g strong wholemeal flour
  • 100g strong white bread flour
  • 1 tsp instant yeast

Method

  1. Mix the wholemeal and white bread flour together in a mixing bowl. Then add your ingredients to the bread machine pan in the following order: water, butter, salt, treacle, flour mixture and yeast.

  2. Place the bread pan in the bread machine and securely close the lid. Choose the ‘Whole Wheat’ setting, select a medium size loaf and start the machine.

  3. Once the baking cycle ends, carefully open the bread machine and remove the pan with oven gloves or a thick tea towel. Leave the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before gently shaking it out. Place on a cooling rack until it’s completely cooled down.

  4. Once cooled, cut a slice and enjoy with butter and a layer of your favourite jam!
