‘Smashing’ burgers helps develop a delicious crust that’ll have your mouth watering. Serve in a sesame bun with gherkin, cheese, lettuce and your favourite sauce.
Unleash flavours and experience a caramelised, crispy burger like no other with our smash burger recipe. Simply use a burger press to firmly press down on your meat patties, pressing them into a thin disk that turns up the browning process when cooking. Create a rich, brown crust for maximum flavour that’ll convert you into a smash burger enjoyer.
What you'll need...
- 4 burger buns, sesame topped or whatever your fancy
- 500g steak mince
- 1 tbsp sunflower oil
- 4 slices of mild cheddar, or your preferred cheese
- 1 red onion, sliced finely
- Iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 1 large gherkin, sliced lengthways
- Salt and pepper, for seasoning
- Your preferred sauces to serve
Method
Slice the burger buns and toast or grill the cute sides. Set them aside until later. Preheat the oven to 100C / 80C fan / gas ¼.
Divide the mince into four piles, creating patties, and season with salt and pepper. Heat some of the oil in a frying pan or skillet over a high heat and place one of the patties in the pan. Carefully use the burger press to press the patty down as hard as you can. Allow to cook for 2 minutes.
Turn the patty over and slightly press down with a spatula. Top with a slice of cheese and cook for 1 minutes before transferring to a baking tray and keeping warm in the oven.
Follow the previous steps when cooking the rest of the patties.
Assemble the burger. Choose your own choice of toppings, but we enjoy scattering a bun base with onion and lettuce, topping with the smashed burger patty, gherkin slices and bun top. Either serve with your chosen sauce on the side or add to the top of the patty.
